It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.

     J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings.

Welcome to Blog number One from Meta-Manager, it’s an interesting one to write!  As I begin I have literally thousands of ideas buzzing around in my head, the sheer volume proving something of a creative cramp as I sit at the keyboard.  This paralyses is part idea overload and also a realization that as Blog number one the readership may very well be one…. Me.

Why Meta-Manager?  Seems a good a starting point.  What is in a name? Well, it’s a way of creating an identity, providing a placeholder in the universe which says I’m here and ready for business.  Meta-Manager provides a nice hybrid title that draws upon both aspects of my professional and coaching careers.

The following is the Cambridge Dictionary definition;

“meta-” in British English

meta-prefix UK

>involving change:

>outside the normal limits of something:

 (Definition of meta- from the Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary & Thesaurus © Cambridge University Press)

Meta-manager involves creating change both externally and internally and asks the individual and/or business to go beyond their comfort zones.  Only by stretching boundaries can progress be made and progress is essential.

I also use Meta as a self-reference to my own background in the IT sector where metadata and meta tags once paid the bills in a manner of speaking.

Well, that’s it, for now, the name both illustrates where I came from while simultaneously point where we collectively can go. Just like Frodo the road I’ve traveled might not have been the one originally imagined but it has been far more rewarding and goes forever on look forward to sharing the journey with YOU.
